My Favourite Childhood Books

1. My Sister Jodie By Jacqueline Wilson

This is a very moving book with a brilliant story. Two sisters Pearl and Jodie move to a boarding school when their parents get new jobs. Pearl is very happy there, but Jodie the boisterous teenager goes wild and ruins her future at the boarding school. The sisters always stick together, and are a great team. I have read this book many times, and it will either make you burst out laughing, or burst into tears!
For this book, you’ll definitely need the tissues nearby!

2. Kiss By Jacqueline Wilson

This is definitely one of my favourite books. It is probably a book for older readers, but I enjoyed it very much. Sylvie and Carl have been best friends forever and Sylvie has always dreamed of them getting married. But what will happen when Carl’s new “friend” Paul starts to interfere with their relationship. Will it end happily ever after? I’ve recommended this book to many of my friends, as well as My Sister Jodie. If you would like this book for your child, then I would personally wait until they are at least the age of ten.

3. Scarlett By Cathy Cassidy

This is a very funny and moving book suitable for all ages. Scarlett is a messed up 12 year old with a rebel reputation. When she’s sent to Ireland to live with her dad, after being expelled from her school in London, she is furious. She is determined to get out of the boring country. But will a certain boy help her get used to Ireland? An easy to understand and hilarious read. I would definitely recommend it!

4. The Secret Garden By Frances Hodgson Burnett

This is an excellent book by an excellent author. This canny classic will have you reading till midnight, trying to find the mystery of the secret garden. Children of 3 to adults of 80 will enjoy this clever book about a stuck up little girl called Mary living in India. When her mother and father die tragically, she is boarded to Yorkshire where she meets her moody Uncle and his gloomy mansion. At first she is spiteful and selfish, but will a cheeky robin help her find the secret that the family have been hiding for dozens of years? An enjoyable read by a brill author.

5. The Illustrated Mum By Jacqueline Wilson

This is a wonderful book that will definitely pull at your heart strings. Dolly thinks her mum Marigold is the brightest, most beautiful mum in the world. She’s totally covered in tattoos and really cool. But now Dolly’s sister Star is getting worried about the bills and food. What will happen when Marigold stays out all night and leaves them on their own? A great story with good prose.
